Alaska is a bird lovers paradise. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game there are around 500 different bird species that can be found in Alaska! I don't know about you guys but that makes me so excited I wanna shake my booty like a sandpiper.
This past Tuesday we had a BBQ and staff meeting during which I gave a little interactive lesson about birds in the area for our kayak guides and staff here at Adventure 60 North. We strive to continue our natural and cultural history and interpretation lessons throughout the summer to keep our kayaking and hiking guides minds growing along with their muscles. For this natural environment interpretation lesson I took a spin on the old classic, BINGO, and turned it into an educational game about a select 25 species of birds we see commonly here on the Kenai Peninsula. A violet-green tree swallow swooping in overheard started our game, and then I called birds off my list from there. I incorporated interesting facts about each bird, along with their pictures.
