Adventure Sixty North offers several guided hiking options at Exit Glacier
Want to to do the hike own your own?
We offer rental trekking poles, Bear spray, snow shoe, rubber boots, maps & more to
those adventurers that choose to hike without a guide
Explore the various trails and visit the nature center out in the park! Hike with a guide that will pick you up at your lodging in Seward and provide small group leadership with no more than 8 persons in your group.
This is the safest & best way to view and experience a glacier in very close proximity without actually gearing up with crampons and hiking out thru the glacier itself. This trip will not get on the glacier! You will get within a few steps of the ice but we do not get onto the ice. We recommend our friends at Exit Glacier Guides for those activities!
About the trails below and above the glacier!
The lower trail and upper trail (Harding Ice Field Trail)
Hiking begins at the parking lot near the Exit Glacier Nature Center and we recommend that you check the Nature Center out!
We have rated the lower trail a easy to moderate hiking trail which is a combination of developed/maintained trail that meanders thru the glacial outflow area near the base and face of the glacier.
We provide you with information, trekking poles, water, and snack. as well as transportation to and from your lodging.
Harding Icefield Trail -
We sometimes call the upper trail. 1000ft of elevation gain from trail head to top!
The upper trail we rate as strenuous 7.4 mi. hike that ascends along the glacier up into the alpine meadows above the tree line. This hike should be only attempted by hikers in good physical condition and we also advise your to bring rain gear, and wear non cotton attire (synthetic type hiking clothing recommended), wool socks with hiking boots (no sandals), and you may even on sunny days consider sun block and sun glasses. This trip is a hike up into upper elevations and you may encounter various conditions such as wind at higher altitudes and also cooler temps as you gain elevation. Wearing a windbreaker with hood and having light synthetic layering that can be added or removed is advisable. We provide guide, trekking poles, lunch, water bottle, snacks, and pickup to and from your Seward lodging. Trail is subject to closure due inclement weather or wildlife issues. Bear spray and adequate water/hydration, and clothing/footwear is highly advised.

About walking or hiking, and biking out to Exit Glacier from the Seward Hwy.
The road to Exit Glacier is 8.6mi one way from the Seward Hwy on Herman Leirer Road one way if hiking out or biking out to Exit Glacier. Road is closed to cars during the winter and sometimes opens in May depending on snow levels. Snow shoe trekkers dog sled teams, cross country skiers and snow machines use the road all winter for winter activities. Herman Leirer Rd is approx 3 mi north of Seward on the Seward Hwy. We figure that the walking or biking distance from Seward is at least 12mi. one way. Shuttle from Seward is available from our friends at Exit Glacier Guides daily during the summer season.
